Bethany Reformed Church exists to glorify God through the Holy Spirit and lead people to a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Historically, Bethany was a small village just outside of Jerusalem – a place of rest and refuge for weary travelers making the long journey to Jerusalem. Thus, Bethany was a site for respite and renewal, a place to be cared for, encouraged, and empowered for continuing one’s journey.
Bethany Church in Redlands has lived into this identity over the decades and we are excited to continue this legacy of providing a place for weary travelers along life’s journey. We seek to provide a “sanctuary” where folks might find rest and renewal as they encounter Christ in a loving community of faith. In so doing, we seek to embody a faith that loves our neighbor as ourselves and acts justly, seeks mercy, and walks humbly with our God (Micah 6:8).
We believe that the Bible – the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and New Testament – are the inspired Word of God and thus trustworthy and authoritative for our lives. Scripture thus guides our faith and practice, and must be interpreted according to its context and purpose.
We believe in the Trinitarian Godhead. God has revealed himself to be the living and true God, perfect in love and righteous in all his ways, one in essence, existing eternally in the three persons of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Holy Spirit renews our hearts, illumines our minds, and empowers us to image Christ as we live out faith, growing in our knowledge of the Lord and learning to love our neighbor as ourselves.
We believe that Jesus Christ is our mediator, redeemer, and savior. Jesus, God’s eternal son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He was fully God and yet fully human and thus removed our guilt by dying in our stead. In so doing, he revealed the divine love and upheld divine justice, reconciling us once again to God. Having redeemed us from sin, Christ rose on the third day and ascended into heaven where, at God’s right hand, he intercedes for his people and rules as Lord over all.
We believe that God gifts and calls both women and men to the manifold ministries of the Church. Therefore, all offices are open to faithful women and men who demonstrate the capacities for the various offices of the Church: Minister, Elder, and Deacon.
We are part of the Reformed theological tradition of the Christian faith, but realize that faith is not static, thus we are Reformed and ever-reforming.
We are a member congregation of the Reformed Church in America. For more information on our beliefs, click through to the RCA Website.
